The Spy Chapter 4 – Part VI That day, Simone had not gone to work. Her boss had said it was not necessary, that they were too many workers to too little work. Her colleagues and her would alternate their days there, so everybody would have free days and all everything would be done. But she, honestly, preferred not to be included in the day off lists. To her, the better would keep herself working. Staying home was would make her to pass more time thinking in Cesar. And thinking in Cesar was what she was doing all the time those days. For a long time he did not send news, and she did not receive letters. That was not so uncommon, but it was uncomfortable. She tried to call her mother in law, but she was too aggressive in the last contacts. To her, Simone was guilty for Cesar being called to the war. No one could convince her that was not true. And Simone would not try to do it anymore. So someone rang the bell. Simone looked in the direction of the door, confused: she did not remember when was the last time someone visited her. She opened the door slowly: “Mrs. Kozinsk?” Her married name. No one called her by it – she had changed it so recently that even her did not remember that now she had a new surname. But the person outside de door knew it and was looking for her. “Yes?” “I have this letter for you. Please, sign here.” “Sure.” The man took the signature, looked her without really looking her? “I am sorry, ma’am.” And he left. Simone did not have to open the letter to know what was written there: Cesar was dead. (23122013 - published in 06012014) | ||||||
