| The Spy Chapter 5 – Part V Simone entered in her boss’ office. Soon after, Elisa also entered, with her eyes red. It was obvious what would happen, but Simone could not feel anything about that. She wanted to feel anything, but all she was able was to think that nothing could get worse than it was. “Girls, I’ve called you here because… I want to talk with you about a very hard issue.” “We are getting fired out, aren’t we?” Elisa asked with tears falling down her face. “I need to choose one of you to fire out. I can’t keep you both, we don’t have financial conditions to do it. But I just can’t choose any of you…” Elisa looked down: “I work here for less time. It’s not fair to fire Simone out, as she works here for a longer time, and… Simone stood up: “I’ll pack my things.” The boss looked her confused. She explained: “Elisa has family. She needs this income to feed her family...” “But…” Elisa said, without power to disagree with that argument, but thinking she could not ask that to Simone. “I don’t have anything. I don’t have anyone.” “What will you do, Simone?” the boss asked her: “How will you sustain yourself, now that…” He would talk about Cesar, but had no courage do say that. But Simone knew what he meant: “I’ll take care of myself. What about Elisa? What will she do?” Simone walked to the door. Elisa stopped her: “Thank you very much. I’ll never forget what you are doing for me now. If you need something, anything, just ask me…” “And when this war finishes, come here, Simone.” The boss said: “It will be my pleasure to give your job back as soon as he has the possibility to do it.” “Thank you.” Simone left the office.
