| The Spy Chapter 1 – Part X Simone looked the computer screen. Cesar was there, happy saying that his mother would like to meet Simone – again. Simone hated that: she would not like to find his mother again. She did not want to pretend she liked her. She would like to stay in peace that weekend. And she would say it to her boyfriend. “Cesar, forget it. I’m not planning to meet your mother this weekend.” “Why not, honey?” She wanted to say the truth: because she was boring. But… she knew it was not a good idea: “I’m tired and I need to take a rest…”she answered, waiting that he would accept this answer. “It’s just lunch, honey! After it, you take your rest.” “I’m not going to meet your mother.” She insisted. “Mom will be very upset if you decline her invitation…” It was enough. In that moment, Simone decided to stop that conversation: “Your mother doesn’t like me, why should I be worried if she became upset with me?” “Who told you my mother doesn’t like you?” It was not time to discuss how his mother behaved with her, but Simone could not stop: “Have you ever noticed how she treats me? She doesn’t want a daughter-in-law, she wants the mother to her grandchildren. Just it. It doesn’t matter that I don’t want children now, it doesn’t matter if I want children… and… it doesn’t matter!” “You’re being unfair, honey. Mom loves you. If she doesn’t, she wouldn’t ask you to be our children’s mother. She thinks in you as her daughter...” “But I don’t have mother. I don’t have. My mother is dead. I don’t want anyone in her place! No one. Did you get it?” Cesar did not answer. Even with a screen between them, even without seeing him, Simone knew she had hurt him. She could do nothing to change that. She could do nothing to change what she was feeling. So she wrote: “Ok, I’ll meet her tomorrow.” But he was not online anymore. He had disconnected the chat. Without knowing what to do, she turned off the program. She thought about calling him to solve that situation, but before it her boss called her, asking her to go to his office.
