The Spy Chapter 1 – Part VIII

Simone looked everywhere. She wanted to run away, if she could. But she could not, and she knew it. That was the only thing she knew, in truth. The only thing she was sure about. What did not dismiss her will to disappear.

“I’m so happy because my son has found a good girl to get married...” Doroth said. She was Cesar’s mother, and someone with whom Simone was unable to feel fine. Maybe because of how she talked. Maybe because of how she behaved. Maybe for any other reason. She just did not like her future mother-in-law.

“I’m also happy because I’ll get married with him, lady.” Simone said, trying to look nice, although she could not feel like that.

“Don’t call me lady, call me mom! I insist. ‘Cause when you get married, you will be like a daughter to me…”

“Thank you.”

“What about your mother? Is her happy about the marriage?”

“My parents are dead, lady. I just have a stepsister, with whom I have little contact.”

“So now we are your family. I’m very proud because you’ll be my daughter and I’ll help you to cope with this sad situation, which is to lose a parent.”

“Thank you”

“You’ll get married soon, won’t you?”

“In fact, we want to wait some time…”

“But why? Which foolishness! You should get married soon and have children, so you could enjoy these moments while you are still young.”

“Lady, we are not thinking about having children now…”

“You should. Cesar would be a wonderful dad, and I would be glad about having a grandchild. I would like to have many children, but unfortunately I just had one, so I insist that he gives me grandchildren.”

“He’ll, lady, but not now. Maybe in some years…”

“No, no, no. I want them while I’m not so old that I can’t take care of them. I insist.”

Simone smiled. That conversation would take a long time. She would feel worse each moment. If she could, she would run away. From that conversation. From that marriage. From everything.
