The spy Chapter 3 – Part X Cesar and Simone walked silently, together, through the airport. He dressing his military uniform - the one he had received to present himself that day. She dressing a simple cloth. Both sharing a sad and desperate feeling: the inexplicable and real fear that maybe they would never see each other again. The fear that, maybe, Cesar was killed in that war. And there were too many ways to be killed in that moment- being fatally injured would be only one way. Who could say how Cesar would come back from that war? Who could say what he would see during the battles and which would be the effects of those visions? Maybe that would be the last day that Simone would see the husband she knew. Maybe those would be the last minutes of them together. She knew she would suffer that moment, but was surprised by how much she was feeling it. Their silence was broken by Cesar’s telephone. The man hanged the telephone with a sad voice: “Hi, mommy. No, I did not enter the airplane yet. I’ll present myself now. Of course Simone is here, with me. I’m going, mommy, I’m going. It won’t do any difference, mommy, I’ve already told you. I promise, mommy, I’ll try. I love you too. Everything will finish fine, mommy...’ Cesar started to cry: “Everything will finish fine and I want to see you in the airport, waiting for me, when I come back. I love you, mommy. Good bye.” Cesar hanged off the telephone and looked to Simone: “She just makes everything harder. If she wanted, why she is not here now?” Simone hugged him: “Because she doesn’t want to see you leaving. Because it’s too sad to see you going.” Around them, many families, many pairs. The same feeling. The same hurt. And so a man asked their attention: “Please, gentlemen. Please, pay attention! We’ll do three lines to enter the airplane. You need to take one line and enter immediately. The lines appeared. The sound of cry was getting higher, and loud screams were listened. Simone followed Cesar without saying anything, doing her best to look strong. So it was Cesar’s time to enter the airplane. And her despair, that she was avoiding, appeared: “Cesar, please, do not go! Please, I ask you! Do not do it with me, please, please!” “I’ll be back to you, Simone. I promise you.” Cesar said: “I’ll be back and we’ll be happy together, and we’ll build our little home and we’ll be forever happy.” So he kissed her, gave her a strong hug…. And entered the airplane. Before leaving after the door, he still looked back, smiled and said good bye with the hand that was not trying to take the tears out of his face. Simone waited all the other passengers – men like Cesar – enter the airplane and the airplane departs. Ah, she really wanted Cesar leaving coming back through that door, coming back to her, giving up that war… She really wanted that… The war, definitively, was never fair. Never. (15092013) | ||||||
